National Highways trial of new safety cameras

Sussex Safer Roads Partnership (SSRP) and Sussex Police are excited to be part of the National Highways trial, using artificial Intelligence (AI) enabled cameras to record possible mobile phone and seatbelt offences in Sussex. This trial aims to gather additional information, building on the knowledge and understanding of how this technology could be used to increase and improve road safety and as well as develop understanding about how this might be used in the future for enforcement activity.

NPCC: Op Limit – December 2023

Op Limit is the national Christmas drink and drug driving operation that all forces are supported from December 1st until 1st of January. The operation’s primary aim was to prevent deaths and serious injuries caused by people choosing to drive while under the influence throughout the festive period.

RSGB National Road Safety Conference – November 2023

Representatives from Sussex Safer Roads Partnership (SSRP) attended the National Road Safety Conference, which is Road Safety GB’s (RSGB) flagship event. The conference moves around the country and is hosted and organised each year by a Road Safety GB Regional Group(s). The National Conference was hosted by Road Safety GB South West regional group this year and was held in the Cotswolds.

Lancing Motor Show – September 2023

Through attending Lancing Motor Show, SSRP had the opportunity to engage with a variety of road users, promoting positive road user behaviour by all. Drivers were able to discuss advanced driver courses with RoSPA, and also received updated 'Safer For Drivers' booklets, which embed Highway Code updates and guidance in considering more vulnerable road users. Cyclists and pedestrians of all ages were also encouraged to use SSRPs hi-vis merchandise, including backpack covers, lanyards, snap bands, reflective clips, and drawstring bags, which was distributed, for free, to increase visibility and to drivers and other road users on Sussex Roads. The event was extremely successful, with a large amount of literature and merchandise, as well as words of advice, received well by visitors.
