To support the Community SpeedWatch Programme (CSW), its Coordinators, and Parish Councils, Sussex Safer Roads Partnership (SSRP) conducts sessions called Speed Education (Speed ED). This educational intervention is valued by the Community Safety Teams as an excellent engagement tool to combat inappropriate speeding. Speed ED sessions support community engagement and address residential concerns, alongside providing support to CSW groups, and contributing to Operation activity.

Exchanging Places – March 2024

Sussex Safer Roads Partnership (SSRP) supported West Sussex County Council, at a cycle safety event on Wednesday 20th of March, 11am-3pm, at South Street Square, Worthing. The ‘Exchanging Places’ engagements aim to address the most common cause of serious injury and death to cyclists – collisions involving HGVs. A West Sussex County Council cycle instructor was present alongside SSRPs Programme Team, providing face to face road safety messaging and support.

Sussex Safer Roads Partnership (SSRP) supported the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) mobile phone campaign, targeting motorists who use their handheld device at the wheel; through education. It is a significant contributory factor to many serious and fatal road traffic collisions in Sussex. Not only is it extremely dangerous, it’s also illegal and carries a minimum fine of £200 and six points. With the focus being distracted driving, this allowed SSRP to disseminate other relevant information relating to the ‘Fatal 5’.

NPCC: Commercial Vehicle Focus – January 2024

Sussex Safer Roads Partnership (SSRP) supported and deployed our Casualty Reduction Officers (CROs), in response to the National Police Chief Councils (NPCC) Commercial Vehicle campaign. The week of action ran from 22nd of January to the 28th of January 2024. All forces across the UK also took part in this campaign to amplify the messaging nationally. The CROs worked in collaboration with Partners throughout the week of activity.

NPCC: Op Limit – December 2023

Op Limit is the national Christmas drink and drug driving operation that all forces are supported from December 1st until 1st of January. The operation’s primary aim was to prevent deaths and serious injuries caused by people choosing to drive while under the influence throughout the festive period.
