EASTBOURNE 999 – JUNE 2023

Sussex Safer Roads Partnership attended the 999 Display on Eastbourne’s seafront Western Lawns. Resident have had the chance to see emergency response vehicles, get on board a fire engine or ambulance, try out the hoses, see arena demonstrations from the police dogs, sea rescues from the coastguard, and speak face to face to colleagues from a range of emergency services.

Operation Safe Pass, Day of Action – April 2023

Officers from the Roads Policing Unit (RPU) joined Sussex Safer Roads Partnership (SSRP) working together to provide a day of education and enforcement. The activity was held on New Church Road, Hove – on Tuesday 18th of April, between 08:00-11:00, to mark Operation Close Pass day of action highlighting the importance of keeping at least the distance of another car (1.5m) away. This location was selected due to our data showing us that 50% of those killed and seriously injured on this road have been cyclists. This activity was aimed to increase awareness among other road users.

POWERED TWO-WHEELER ENGAGEMENT – APRIL 2023

Sussex Safer Roads Partnership were at Madeira Drive in Brighton on Friday 14th April. Members of Brighton and Hove County Council, Community SpeedWatch and East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service joined our Programme Delivery Officer, discussing motorcycle safety with members of the public. On a particularly wet and windy day, riders braved the conditions to join us, discussing training courses such as Biker Down and Bike Safe, as well as general rider safety.

NFCC Motorcycle Safety Week – April 2023

Monday 3rd of April was the start of NFCC's Motorcycle Safety Week. The use of motorcycles increased in 2020 - 2021 by 17 per cent. Despite motorcycles making up around one per cent of vehicle traffic, in 2021 they accounted for 20 per cent of road fatalities and 12 per cent of road injuries in Great Britain.  This week-long campaign encourages Fire and Rescue Services, along with Road Safety Partnerships, to share road safety advice for riders and - no matter what level of experience they have - to improve their knowledge and skills by taking additional rider education.

NPCC 2-Wheel Operation Road Safety Campaign – April 2023

National safety operation: Police urge all road users to help reduce two-wheel collisions. A national road safety operation starts today (Monday 10 April), in which police forces all over the country will be urging road users to help improve safety for the riders of bicycles and motorcycles.
