Sussex Safer Roads Partnership attended Ardingly’s South of England, ‘Classic Show and Bikejumble’, on Sunday 30th of October 2022! It was a very wet morning celebrating anything and everything bike related, showcasing the wonderful world of motoring – surprisingly the weather didn’t put people off and the event recieved a large amount of footfall. SSRP attended alongside RoSPA, focusing on all things road safety! This event provided us a fantastic opportunity to speak to one of our priority groups.

Per mile travelled, motorcyclist are 4 x more likely to have a fatal incident compared to a cyclist, and 85 x more likely to be Killed or Seriously Injured than someone driving a car (Dft 2018).

Sussex Safer Roads Partnership supports a number of workshops held across Sussex which improves rider knowledge, skill and awareness of the roads. This is something we spoke heavily about, to those in attendance.

BikeSafe is one of the longest running education schemes here in Sussex and considering that it gets booked up almost instantly every year, one of the most popular as well!

As the thousands of bikers who’ve enjoyed and benefited from it will tell you, BikeSafe is a one-day workshop run by the Police in a relaxed, friendly environment. It’s been designed to bridge the gap between every day riding and training delivered by the likes of the DSA, IAM or RoSPA.

How to book: All bookings are managed on the national BikeSafe website.

Actions taken in the first few moments after an accident involving a biker can be crucial in minimising injuries and can make a real difference to the lives of those involved.

Biker Down is a free training workshop run by professionals for bikers designed to answer these uncertainties. Originally developed by Kent Fire & Rescue Fire Bike Team, it uses the expertise of the Emergency Services and HSE qualified First Aid Trainers to prepare motorcyclists should the worst happen on the roads.

How to book: To find more information regarding the Biker Down workshops, please contact the team on firebike@westsussex.gov.uk (West Sussex) or firebike@esfrs.org (East Sussex).
