Drug Driving Law Changes – Three men have become the first motorists in Sussex to be charged under a new drug-driving law.

Legislation that came into force on 2 March 2015 set legal limits for how much of a substance – both illegal drugs and prescription medication – motorist can have in their system while driving.

Officers no longer need to prove that a motorist is fit to drive – just that the motorist has an illegal level of drugs in their system while driving.

A total of 38 people have been arrested under the new drug-driving legislation since it came into force.

People in Sussex can text officers on 65999 with the details of people they suspect of drink or drug driving or visit www.operationcrackdown.co.uk.
