Sussex BikeSafe

Sussex BikeSafe is a partnership between Sussex Police and Sussex Safer Roads Partnership. The scheme is a national police-led initiative which seeks to engage with motorcyclists in a conflict free environment in an attempt to reduce those killed or seriously injured on the roads. The aim is to give riders, using the roads of Sussex, an insight into what can be achieved by exploring advanced riding techniques. So whether if it’s a shiny cruiser or a tricked-up sports machine, Sussex BikeSafe is for all.

The friendly, down to earth team, are experienced emergency service personnel who are passionate about riding and look to provide those riders who attend the workshops with an informative and enjoyable day. If you are a rider and are serious about staying safe on the roads or fancy polishing the skills that you already possess, book a Sussex BikeSafe course now and have a great day out.

Workshop Content

Prior to attending the practical Rideout, you will attend an online theory input where you will learn about the System of Control. A principle adopted by advanced Police drivers and riders across the UK. This theory input will give a greater depth of understanding around how we position ourselves within the road to maximise our view. You will learn about the 5 phases of the system which if used correctly make your ride not only safer but put you in good stead for further advanced training should you choose. The theory input also covers filtering, overtaking observation and a whole range of other topics that will make you a more confident and safer rider.

Your Sussex BikeSafe assessment starts at 09:00 and runs through to approximately 12:00. If you are booked on an afternoon assessment this will start at around 12:45 to around 3.45 with a maximum of 8 riders on each session. The session starts with a quick safety briefing and some admin. You will then be introduced to the team and we find out a little about you as a rider. We then talk about what you want to achieve out of the course to give you the best possible experience. Whether it be cornering, overtaking, filtering or just an overall observation of your ride we will do our utmost to make you end the day a more confident and safer rider!

We use experienced, operational Police Motorcyclists who use these skills daily. We are here to help you achieve what you set out to cover in this course. Make the most of their expertise and tailor it to your ride.

The sessions are run from the Public car park to the rear of Centenary House, Durrington Lane Worthing BN13 2PQ or What3Words – star.lines.tidy
