Managed by Projects Zero, it is backed by the government, the emergency services, highways agencies, road safety organisations, and British businesses. It promotes an evidence-led, ‘safe system’ approach – the long-term objective of which is a road traffic system free from death and serious injury.

The aims of Project EDWARD are the following:
– Safe Vehicles
– Safe Road Use
– Safe Speed
– Safe Roads and Roadsides
– Post Crash Care

This week brings a wealth of events to promote road safety, showcasing some of the work being done around the country to promote safer vehicles, roads, and best practice.

Sussex Safer Roads Partnership joined Brighton and Hove City Council’s launch event at Jubilee Library, where we heard from a variety of different speakers discussing the work being done to make our roads safer for everyone. These included; Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner Katy Bourne OBE and Dawn Wittaker, Chief Fire Officer at East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, and Councillor Elaine Hills, member of the Environment, Transport and Sustainability committee.

Following the speakers we engaged with the public, providing both educational materials as well handing out items promoting road safety.

Sussex Safer Roads Partnership’s communications officer, Ellen, who attended the event said:

‘This event brought together a variety of different organisations that share the same aim. We are all working collaboratively, towards dramatically cutting the numbers of deaths and serious injuries on our roads. We are proud to support Project EDWARD and are excited to see how this national week of road safety continues to evolve.’
