There was a fantastic turn-out at the Worthing Fire Station Open Day returned – after nearly 3 years! The road safety team here at Sussex Safer Road Partnership (SSRP) supported the event through road safety messaging.
Many visitors at this event fall into our key priority groups. This event was a fantastic opportunity for the Partnership to speak with the public about key road safety issues and work positively with an audience that may not initially be familiar with SSRP or engaged with our initiatives. Through educational activities, physical resources, and conversation we were able to engross the audience – supporting individuals understanding of the importance of road safety.
It was amazing to see everybody come along to see displays and demonstrations throughout the day, by the fire service. There was a large push in educational demonstrations in relation to road traffic collisions (RTC), which directly supported our road safety messaging.
We were joined at the event by: a colleague from West Sussex Fire and Rescue team from the Targeted Education, Intervention & Prevention team, a Senior Advisor from the Road Safety Team from West Sussex County Council and a member of staff from Community Speed Watch.

A special thank you to Chris Bowles, Worthing Fire Station Manager, for organising such an amazing event – everyone had a brilliant day.
This huge joint community event is attended by over 12,000 people, has been lots of fun over the years and raises much needed funds for charities. Every year the organisers are astounded by the generosity of our local Worthing community, thank you! This event raised money for a handful of selected local charities and The Fire Fighters Charity.
